The Back to School Cleaning
The beginning of the school year is quickly approaching. Are you ready? When you were a child, you probably remember the feelings of excitement, nerves, and annoyance at having to end your summer and go back to school. Now that you are a parent, you realize that your parents were also feeling some stress!
There are so many things that need to be accomplished before the beginning of the year, and it’s difficult to make that transition from sweet, lazy summertime back to the rigid schedule of the school year. Among all of those things on your to-do list, have you considered a dental cleaning?
We realize that you don’t want anything else on your plate this month, but a dental appointment could do a lot to help your student get ready for a great year. Bring them to our Plano, TX family dentist office and see the difference for yourself!
Setting Your Child up for Success
Let’s face it, you are doing everything you can to set your child up for a successful school year. You are checking things off of their supply list, getting them new clothes, and planning healthy meals to keep them moving through the year. A dental cleaning can do the same! Take a look below at some of the benefits of a back to school dental cleaning.
Confident Smile – Nothing makes you feel more confident than knowing you have a clean, beautiful smile. Give that to your child so that they can tackle the halls with their heads held high.
Healthy Mouth – The health of your mouth has a huge influence on the health of your body. By ensuring that your child’s smile is healthy, you may just be saving them from a few sick days throughout the year!
Smooth Transitions – As your child transitions from baby teeth to adult teeth, it is important that we monitor this transition so that we can catch issues while they are still easy to treat. We can recommend an orthodontist for an early assessment so that your child doesn’t spend years in braces!
Be Sure At-Home Care Is on Point
The way your child cares for their teeth at home will be a big indicator in their long term oral health outcome. Problems with teeth rarely come out of nowhere. Take a look below to see how your child fares against the ADA’s recommendations for great oral hygiene at home.
Brushing – Your student should be brushing for at least two minutes twice a day. The ADA recommends that you spend 30 seconds in each quadrant of your mouth. Is your child taking the necessary time to brush?
Flossing – Is your student flossing in the evenings? The ADA recommends that you floss before your final brushing of the day. If your child is too young to handle traditional floss, try flossers!
Diet – The amount of sugar your child consumes is a concern on many levels, but it is especially relevant to their teeth. Keep an eye on the snacks they consume, the beverages they drink, and the amount of sugar in the foods you prepare. It all adds up much quicker than many parents realize.
Come In for a Visit
Home care is great, but it’s not all that is needed for a healthy smile. Routine dental appointments are key for long term oral health. Check out the different aspects of a child’s dental appointment listed below.
Cleaning – We’ll begin your child’s appointment with a cleaning. This will remove all of the plaque and tartar that have built up since their last appointment.
X-rays – To monitor the transition between baby teeth and adult teeth, we will take some X-rays. This will also allow us to see decay that we can’t see about the surface.
Fluoride Treatment – All children will receive a fluoride treatment that is applied to their teeth. We also offer dental sealants for most children. Fluoride and sealants will protect your child’s smile from decay.
