Does it Hurt to Chew Halloween Candy?

October 8, 2015

Is it a struggle to eat your favorite Halloween candy? It’s never fun to have difficulty chewing, you miss out on all the tasty treats life has to offer. That’s especially true during the Halloween season. It can be hard to enjoy Halloween when that caramel apple you just bought brings you pain instead of happiness.

The inability to chew normally is generally caused by one of two problems: missing teeth or damaged teeth. At 1st In Smiles in Plano, TX, we offer restorative dental work to help you get back to eating all the foods you love. But problems chewing aren’t just about not being able to eat your favorite foods anymore.

When you’re having a hard-time chewing, you may have to seek out softer foods. This can lead to a lack of variety in your diet. You may feel like you can only eat starches such as mashed potatoes. That means you miss out on important proteins and fibers in your diet. If given enough time on a limited diet, you may begin to suffer from malnutrition. This can lead to a whole host of other health problems and struggles.

In addition, if your difficulty chewing is caused by missing teeth you may face additional health problems. Chewing with missing teeth places additional stress onto your remaining teeth. That means you can actually get stuck in a cycle of losing teeth due to your missing teeth. You may also experience a deterioration of health in your jawbone.

But we can help you. If your tooth is damaged or decayed, we can repair it. Many cavities can be filled painlessly with a filling. Fillings help restore teeth and prevent the decay from spreading. We offer tooth-colored fillings so no one has to know that you’ve got a filling in the first place.

If your tooth is infected, you may benefit from a root canal. During a root canal we clean-out infections in your dental pulp. Despite what you may have heard, root canals are a painless procedure. If you are nervous about having a root canal or a filling, we offer nitrous oxide sedation (laughing gas) to help put you at ease.

We can also restore a damaged tooth with a dental crown. A dental crown is almost like a cap for your tooth. We remove the damaged portion fo your tooth, then place a dental crown on-top. Dental crowns look completely lifelike and allow your tooth to function like normal. Dental crowns are generally placed after a root canal.

If you’re missing teeth, then a dental implant could be just the solution that you were looking for. A dental implant is an article tooth root which actually fuses with your natural jawbone. Dental implants are then used to support a crown, artificial tooth, or other dental appliance.

If you’re missing many of your teeth, we also offer full and partial dentures. Our dentures are made of premium components to help ensure a perfect fit. With our dentures you’ll be able to chew once more.

Are you ready to chew your favorite Halloween candies once more? Then schedule an appointment with 1st In Smiles in Plano, TX. We can help restore your mouth to full-form and function. Call us at 972-905-9266 to schedule an appointment.
