Here’s How to Know if Your Water Has Fluoride (Video)
There’s no contest when it comes to the best beverage for your orall health, and your overall health too. It’s water! We’ve commented pretty often on the importance of drinking water, including in this post about making healthy snack choices. As good as water is, for many smiles it’s even better if it contains fluoride.
Fluoride is a mineral that makes your teeth less resistant to cavities by strengthening tooth enamel. Given this important benefit, many communities add fluoride to their water supplies. Grand Rapids, MI fluoridated its water in 1945, becoming the first city to do so. Over the years many municipal and regional water systems followed suit. You can see if your own community is one of them by entering your geographic information into this handy tool on the CDC’s website.
Many of us also drink bottled water. As seen in this American Dental Association video, you’ll need to read the product label to determine if your water has fluoride. If it was treated with distillation or reverse osmosis before it was bottled, it likely does not.
We’re happy to any questions about fluoridated water at your next dental exam. Plus, we can also determine whether you or other members of your family would benefit from a professional fluoride treatment. To schedule an appointment, call 1st in Smiles at 972-380-8105 today.
