A Women putting her aligners

Welcome back to another blog from your friends at 1st In Smiles! Here at our Plano, TX dental office, we offer a variety of high-quality services that can help your family get the dental care they need. Today, we would like to remind you about just one of these services: Invisalign. Invisalign clear braces can help you or your teenager get the straight, beautiful smile you need without the hassle or commitment of traditional braces. Invisalign is fast, comfortable, convenient, and a great alternative option for many patients.

Did you know that Invisalign is a wonderful options for high school kids who play a musical instrument? Marching band season is kicking off, so now is the time to consider how orthodontic treatment is going to affect your teenager’s ability to play their trumpet! If your child plays a brass or woodwind instrument, traditional braces may negatively affect their experience and even harm the quality of their music. Invisalign could be the answer!

Invisalign Clear Braces 101

So what is Invisalign? Invisalign is comprised of a series of clear plastic aligners that gradually shift your teeth into place over a period of about 12 months. We create the aligners using the latest technology based on your current smile and the results you want. You then simply change out your aligners every two weeks in order to create results. That’s it! Traditional braces take longer to work, aren’t as discreet, aren’t as comfortable, and are generally more of a hassle to maintain.

Comfortable Treatment All Season Long

While Invisalign certainly has a variety of benefits, the main one that affects musicians is its comfort. Traditional braces come with a bunch of metal brackets and wires that can create discomfort in the mouth … even when instruments are not involved! When you add in a trumpet or a clarinet, things get even more complicated. These instruments require the lips to be placed in a certain way … and this can put pressure on your braces. This pressure is sure to cause discomfort. The inside of your lips can be pressed up against the metal brackets of your braces. With extended practice, this can be very uncomfortable. It can also harm the quality of your music.

Invisalign can solve this problem by simply eliminating the metal braces and wires. Because Invisalign aligners use a clear plastic material, there simply are not any metal pieces rubbing up against the inside of your mouth. No discomfort! Invisalign aligners will not hinder your ability to play your instrument. You can blow air through your trombone or saxophone without any trouble whatsoever! If you or your child want to survive the marching band season comfortably, consider Invisalign over traditional braces.

You Can’t Beat the Convenience

In addition to being a more comfortable option, Invisalign is also incredibly convenient to use! Did you know that the aligners are 100 percent removable? That means that you can simply take them out if needed for special occasions! While we do not recommend removing your aligners every time you practice your baritone, you can take them out temporarily if you think it would help you. They should be removed for eating, drinking, and hygiene as well. Just beware … your aligners need to be worn for at least 22 hours every day to produce great results.

Invisalign aligners are also, well, invisible! Because of the clear plastic material, they are virtually impossible to see once they are in your mouth. This will help you look great at every competition this fall!
