Enjoy Great Oral Health With Dental Cleanings & Exams in Plano

Even the best toothbrushes and most meticulous flossing can’t do what a professional cleaning can for a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime. Getting regular dental cleanings and exams in Plano is one of the most important ways to maintain good oral health.

Dr. Barfield on Dental Exam & Cleanings at 1st in Smiles in Plano, TX

Well we do a comprehensive examination with every patient when we see them. We think it is important for them to have their teeth cleaned on a regular basis. Some people have some periodontal issues that require more than just a regular cleaning. We can do non-surgical periodontal procedures in our office which is called scaling and root planing and in some cases, it’s going to require more than just a non-surgical periodontal treatment and we have a periodontist who works in our office on Saturdays and she can provide surgical procedures for those patients who need more extensive periodontal treatment.

These general dental services will:

  • Help prevent cavities and gum disease
  • Provide us with opportunities to discuss treatments to improve your smile
  • Allow Dr. Rick Barfield to check for early signs of oral cancer
  • Remove surface stains from your teeth, so they’ll look great
  • Enable us to create a personalized plan for good oral hygiene at home

We recommend visiting us for a dental exam and cleaning every six months. To schedule your next exam, call 972-905-9266.

If you’re ready for an exam but are embarrassed about the condition of your mouth, don’t let that stop you from coming! Our office is a guilt-free zone; there’s no reason to worry about us lecturing or judging you. Our only goal is to help you get back on track to great oral health.

Our Technology Helps Us Identify Problems During Dental Exams

Some dental practices save their advanced technology for complex procedures. We use tools like panoramic digital X-rays and an intraoral camera to get a closer look inside your mouth during dental exams. We don’t rely solely on technology, though; we’ll also talk to you about any pain you’re having or other issues you may be experiencing.

In addition to our exam, we’ll do a thorough cleaning to remove plaque and polish your teeth. We use a Cavitron Prophy-Jet, which uses air, water, and baking soda to remove plaque from your teeth. With less scraping, it’s more comfortable for you and easier on your tooth structure. Dr. Barfield will also discuss possible preventive treatments and solutions like fluoride treatments. He’ll work closely with you to create your treatment plan and take time to answer any questions you have.

If it’s your first dental checkup with us, you can expect your appointment to last approximately one and a half to two hours to ensure we get a thorough understanding of your mouth’s health. If you’re short on time, though, we can do your cleaning at a separate appointment.

Receive Free Whitening for Life With Regular Dental Exams

Ask us about our special Free Whitening for Life offer. As an added incentive to visit us for regular dental exams and cleanings, we’ll supply you with custom-made teeth whitening trays and professional-strength whitening gel as long as you follow our recommended exam schedule.

Debra Fuqua

I have periodontal disease and because of that I’ve had a lot of dental work done so what’s important in my dental care is the treatment in between my periodontal treatments and if I get the proper dental cleaning and dental care, then it actually helps not only my health and well being as far as my teeth are concerned, but also it cuts down on a lot of the aftercare for the periodontal disease. Initially he was so easy to talk to. You know normally when you go to a dentist you feel threatened, frightened and everything like that but he opened up, he actually shared with me my x-ray results, showed me where i had some problems and gave me recommendations and ultimately we got there because he has had to do quite a bit of additional work because of the periodontal disease. I’m very impressed with their office because you can have a 7:00 appointment and get in there early and everybody is bright and bubbly like the day has been going on for hours and typically that early in the morning everybody doesn’t have that personality. Every time you go there the office is always pleasant, it’s clean, best magazines and tv programs. You don’t really have to ever wait very long of anything like that. The office is always helpful, pleasant and easy to work with, even on a phone call and especially in person.
