Stop Decay in Its Tracks With Tooth Fillings in Plano

If you have a dark silver filling in your mouth, you know it shows when you smile or talk. Aside from appearances, these silver fillings have raised health concerns because they contain mercury. At 1st In Smiles, our tooth fillings in Plano are made of composite instead of metal.

Our composite fillings:

  • Look Natural – Since they are made of composite that we match to your other teeth, our fillings blend in easily with the rest of your smile.
  • Contain No Mercury – Studies haven’t proved that mercury fillings are hazardous to your health, but there is concern that mercury from silver fillings, which break down over time, can leak into other parts of your body. Silver fillings may also be unsafe for those with metal allergies. We think it’s best to avoid these risks by using composite fillings.
  • Are Easier on Your Teeth – Metal fillings require more removal of the healthy portion of your tooth before filling the cavity. This can weaken your tooth, making it more susceptible to decay and infection. Tooth-colored fillings preserve more of your natural tooth and keep it strong.

If you think you may have a cavity that needs a filling, call us today at 972-905-9266.

If Your Damage Is Too Extensive for a Filling, We Can Still Repair It

If your cavity is too large to repair with a filling, Dr. Rick Barfield can usually mend it with a dental crown. Because a crown covers your entire tooth, it can fix even severely decayed teeth.

Like our fillings, our crowns contain no metal. They are made of all porcelain or other ceramics, carefully matched to the color of your other teeth.

If decay gets into the pulp inside your tooth, it can cause an often painful infection. If left untreated, the infection will cause you to lose your tooth. Dr. Barfield will remove the infection and save your tooth with a root canal. The final step of the procedure is sealing your tooth with either a filling or a crown.

No matter which procedure you receive to repair a cavity or other damage, we have sedation options if you need them.

Stephanie Delarosa

I fell on Valentine’s evening and busted my front teeth out and had no choice but to obviously to have something done and the week before I had just seen Dr. Barfield to get a consultation for my wisdom teeth and possibly Invisalign. I love their office and I was like “okay I feel good here like a traumatic experience, it’s going to end” and sure enough I busted my front teeth out. I called them and they were like “come in immediately”. They were so sweet saying you could have called and we would have got you in sooner if we had known and I was there for almost 10 hours for emergency surgery and you would think I was at home, they took such great care of me then and after and till today. So I stand by them, always. Just have fun. It doesn’t always have to be about the scarey procedures or getting your teeth cleaned or having dental work done, they talk to you pretty much the whole time and you basically forget you’re even there. So it’s great, I love them.
