Sedation Dentistry Options in Plano, TX

Dr. Barfield Sedation Options Read Transcript

Did you know that as many as three out of four Americans have some level of fear about seeing the dentist? We’ve seen fearful patients who waited so long for an exam that by the time they came to 1st In Smiles, they needed much more extensive and expensive work than if they had come at the first signs of the problem.

1st In Smiles doesn’t expect you to conquer your fear of the dentist. We understand that you might have had a bad experience with a dentist or are anxious because you don’t know what’s going to happen or how much it will cost. We want you to share your fears with us so that we can do our best to make you comfortable in our no-lecture, relaxed environment. But we also have another way to quickly ease your fears: sedation dentistry in Plano, TX.

Multiple Sedation Options To Meet Your Needs

Your Plano, TX sedation dentist offers three different types of sedation dentistry depending on your procedure or treatment, the length and number of treatments, and your level of anxiety. Sedation is also a safe way to help those who have trouble sitting still (particularly due to medical conditions), have sensitive teeth or gums, have a low tolerance for pain or needles, need many procedures done in one or two visits, or have trouble getting numb from anesthesia.

Nitrous Oxide

Dr. Barfield Sedation Techniques Read Transcript

Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is the most common form of sedation and is very safe, even for children. It is breathed in through a nose piece and in minutes makes you completely comfortable and relaxed. You will be unaware of your treatment yet fully responsive the entire time. From teeth whitening treatment to dental bridges, your treatment can be completed in less time and with less stress, which allows for a speedy recovery. Nitrous oxide wears off quickly, so you can typically leave the office alone.

1st In Smiles is committed to providing you with a relaxed visit, so we offer free nitrous oxide during your, or your child’s, treatment.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation is administered in a prescription pill and has longer-lasting effects than nitrous oxide. You’ll take it before your treatment and have someone drive you to our office. By the time your treatment starts, you’ll be stress-free and will have little or no memory of your visit. We will monitor you during your appointment after which your companion will drive you home.

IV Conscious Sedation

IV conscious sedation is also a safe sedation technique that allows for a deeper level of sedation with the ability for us to control the levels more easily than a pill. Even though you’ll be awake the whole time, you won’t remember any of the procedure and will feel as though you’re sleeping.

We are trained to monitor you carefully while you are under any type of sedation, including IV sedation. This form of sedation takes awhile to wear off, so you’ll need to leave the office with an escort.

If you believe sedation dentistry can help you relax, let us know when you make an appointment by calling our Plano, TX office at 972-905-9266 or filling out our online appointment request form. We’ll be happy to keep you calm, comfortable, and healthy with our dental sedation options.
